Debra Thompson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024, at her home in New Albany, Mississippi. Born on July 3, 1956, in Amory, Mississippi, Debra lived a life filled with love, warmth, and the kind of magic that she effortlessly shared with everyone around her.
As an Activity Director in assisted living facilities, Debra dedicated herself to brightening the lives of others, bringing joy and companionship to those she served. Her generous spirit and nurturing nature were a testament to her deep commitment to family and community.
Debra’s love for family was evident in her many cherished roles. She is survived by her devoted husband, Mac Thompson; her daughters, Misty Hughes (Bill Hughes) and Tracy Carmikle; and her son, Blake Thompson (Beverly Thompson) and her sister Linda Johnson. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her grandchildren: Hannah Whiteside (Mark Whiteside), Kristen Pemberton (Tyler Kennon), Donovan Hughes (Sheridan Hitchcox), Clay Mitchell (Halie Buchanan), Ryan Mitchell, Colin Hughes, Hunter Chism, Haley Chism, Hope Chism, Addison Thompson, Ella Thompson, Rowan Thompson, and Quinn Thompson, along with great-grandchildren Liam Crocker, Warren Barr, Audrey Barr, Sophia Mitchell, and Harlan Chism.
Debra was preceded in death by her mother Mary Nash, son Stephen Chism, and granddaughter Hollie Chism.
Debra had a passion for the holidays, with Christmas and Halloween holding a special place in her heart. She loved quilting with her mother, creating beautiful pieces that symbolized family ties and cherished memories. Debra found joy in fishing and camping trips, relishing the great outdoors and sharing those experiences with her family. Her love for reading and cooking was matched only by her adventurous spirit, which saw her partake in archery during her youth and enjoy unforgettable family trips to Disney and the mountains.
Debra had a unique talent for hosting gatherings, always making everything magical for her friends and loved ones. Her giving nature and warm heart created an environment where joy and laughter flourished. It is this spirit of love and generosity that will forever resonate within all who knew her.
A memorial service to celebrate Debra’s extraordinary life will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 5:00 PM- 8:00 PM at Glenfield Funeral Home. We invite all who loved Debra to join us in honoring her memory, sharing stories, and reflecting on a life that was truly a gift to those she touched.
