Delila Nadine Nichols Goossen, 79

May 1, 1946 – April 16, 2026

Delila Nadine Nichols Goossen- our kind loving mother, grandmother, and great grandma, was born to Loyd and Martha Schultz Nichols on May 1, 1946, at their home near Neodesha, KS. She peacefully went to her eternal home on April 16, 2026, at Shearer-Richardson Nursing Home Okolona, MS, reaching nearly 80 yrs. She received her education at country schools in the Fredonia, KS area. As a young girl of 8 years she experienced grief and loneliness when her daddy died suddenly of a heart attack. She often sang the song “How Far Is Heaven? Let’s Go Tonight, I Want My Daddy to Hold Me Tight”.

Living on Grandpa Schultz’s yard with her mother and sister brought many happy times of being with her uncles, aunts, and cousins making them a very close knit family. After accepting Jesus as her personal Savior, she was baptized on Dec. 12,1957, by Min Kenneth Smith into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite and remained courageous to the end. As a teen she helped provide by working in a shirt factory.

Delila married Oliver, son of Albert and Susan Rempel Goossen from Rich Hill, MO, on March 27, 1966. They began their married life in Albuquerque, NM, where Oliver was putting in his 2 years of 1-W service. This brought new and lasting friendships with others serving there. Here is where their first child was born. Later they resided at Rich Hill, MO, where two more children were born to them, making her a busy young mother.

In the early 70’s they left Missouri to live a year in Georgia before setting at a new congregation at Okolona, MS. She felt it was a blessing that her mother moved here and had a home on their yard. Also a close cousin, who was like a sister, Judy and Don Unruh and family came to be near us. It was special that another daughter was born to them.

Mom taught us to enjoy work, often working together with us and telling us stories or making it a game. She liked to keep things neat and orderly. Our home was always open to family and friends. Mom welcomed each new one that joined the family and we all knew Mom loved and cared about all of us and was interested in our lives. Other relatives and friends and even neighbor ladies called and mom listened. Her pleasant ways were appreciated by many. Dad was ordained as a deacon in Jan of 1992.

Mom faithfully stood by Dad’s side being a good example of modesty, simplicity, and economy. Angels carried Dad away July 12, 2021, after an extended illness. Mom’s health was declining also. We are thankful for her caretakers whom she came to totally depend on. She was known for her sweet smile and never complaining.

Left with many fond memories of good family times are her children: Janell and Jeff Jantz, Houston, MS; Jannice and Mark Koehn, Okolona, MS; Steve and Tania Goossen, Prairie, MS; Starla and Vaughn Koehn, Fredonia, KS. 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandsons. Her sister: Phyllis and Adrian Goossen (Oliver’s oldest brother) and the rest of the Goossen family: Ellen, Mrs. Ray Goossen; Rowena and Allen Koehn; Edith and Wesley Koehn; Karen and Al Smith; Orlando and Almeta Goossen. Many relatives and friends.

Those gone on before: her dear husband, her parents, parents-in-law, and 1 brother-in-law.
