Dollar General fire early Friday causes moderate damage
New Albany fire crews responded to reports of a cooler fire in the Dollar General store on East Bankhead early Friday morning.
The call came in at 6:20 a.m. and firefighters arrived on the scene in one minute and 27 seconds, Fire Chief Mark Whiteside reported.
The chief arrived and reported smoke and fire in the back storage room on the B side (west side).
“Crews isolated the room, made a quick attack extinguishing the fire avoiding a severe incident, and causing only minor fire damage with heavy smoke damage in the storage room and light smoke throughout the store,” he said.
The fire was under control within 30 minutes but crews stayed on the scene until 7:45 to make sure the fire was out and to clean up.
”Great work from a great and committed crew,” Chief Whiteside said.
