Don Gilbert, 61

December 29, 1963 – November 5, 2025

Don Gilbert, a cherished father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, in his hometown of New Albany, Mississippi. Born on December 29, 1963, in the same close-knit town, Don’s life was evidence of his love for his family and his dedication to his work and community.

For many years, Don worked tirelessly as a construction worker, a role in which he not only built structures but also forged strong bonds with his colleagues and those he served. His commitment to helping others continued when he served as the vice president of the New Albany Health and Rehab Resident Committee. In this role, Don was a voice for many, advocating for the well-being and care of the residents he represented.

Don’s passions extended beyond his work and service. He was an avid music lover and an enthusiastic DJ, sharing his love for rhythm and melody with everyone he could. His affection for cats was well-known, as was his unwavering support for the Dallas Cowboys and his enjoyment of basketball and watching wrestling on tv. These interests were more than hobbies; they were the avenues through which Don connected with friends, family, and his community.

Don’s laughter and love will forever be in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His memory will be cherished and celebrated, as we honor a life lived with joy, compassion, and helping others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie “Doll” Gilbert and Dora Elizabeth Boyd Gilbert; two brothers, Clifford Gilbert and Charlie Gilbert, Jr.; five aunts, Mary McAllister, Roxy Bean Boyd, Annie D. Berry, Lucille Boyd Payton, and Lue Ella Gilbert; and three uncles, Hugh Paul Gilbert, Jessie Gilbert, and Charles Boyd.

Don’s legacy is carried on by his loving family, including his daughter Queena Rutherford (Kellan); his sons Don A. Gilbert, Jr. and Chad Gilbert; special friend, Nancy Fant; eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; four brothers, William Albert “Weebie” Gilbert (Deborah), David Gilbert, Ronnie Gilbert, and Dwight Gilbert; two sisters, Patricia Gilbert and Renee Gilbert; two uncles, Dennis Boyd, Sr. (Francis) and Vance Boyd, Jr. (Katie); one aunt, Dianna Boyd; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at New Birth Community Church, 614 Glade Street, New Albany, MS. Funeral service will be Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM at New Birth Community Church, 614 Glade Street, New Albany, MS.
