Dot Cobb, 80
July 4, 1944 – April 17, 2025
Dorothy J. “Dot” Cobb, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025, in Oxford, MS. Born on the Fourth of July in 1944, in Benton County, MS, Dot brought a sense of independence and joy to all who knew her. She was the beloved daughter of Earl W. Smith and Martha Frankie Weatherly Smith, who preceded her in death, along with her sister Martha Langford. She was also preceded in death by her husband,Julice F. “Buddy” Cobb.
Dot’s warmth and kindness were felt by many throughout her life. She was the loving mother of Frankie “Jean” Warren (Joseph), and LeAnn Cobb; proud grandmother to Joshua Warren and Jennifer Warren; and adored great-grandmother to Marcus Warren. She also leaves behind her devoted sons, Thomas W. Cobb and William R. Cobb; her caring brother James Smith (Jeweldean), of Hickory Flat, MS; and her sister Ruby James of Midland, TX, all of whom will miss her deeply.
Dot’s working years were spent as a dedicated cashier at Walmart, where she retired after more than two decades of service. Her work ethic and friendly demeanor made her a favorite among customers and colleagues alike. Dot’s commitment to her community extended beyond her professional life, as she was actively involved in her church, Oak Ridge Christian Church. She participated wholeheartedly in all aspects and activities, contributing her time and energy to the spiritual and communal life around her.
Her love for life was evident in her personal interests. Dot had a passion for traveling and exploring the great outdoors, often going camping and embracing the beauty of nature. Above all, Dot cherished time spent with her family. She had a special bond with her little great-grandson, Marcus, whose youthful spirit brought her immense happiness.
Those who knew Dot would describe her as loving, gentle, and faith-filled. Her presence was a comforting one, and her ability to listen and offer words of encouragement made her a pillar in the lives of many. Dot’s faith was a guiding force for her, providing strength and solace throughout her journey. She lived her beliefs through her actions, showing kindness and compassion to everyone she met.
Dot’s legacy is one of love, commitment, and service. Her gentle smile and caring nature will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her. She lived a life full of purpose and meaning, touching the hearts of those around her and leaving behind memories that will be treasured forever.
As we say goodbye to Dorothy J. “Dot” Cobb, we celebrate the life she led and the impact she made. She was a beacon of light in her community and an example of unconditional love within her family. Her spirit will continue to live on through the many lives she touched.
Services to honor her life will be Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at United Funeral Service, with Bro. Archie Tafflinger, Bro. Wayne Cobb, and Bro. Bobby Cobb officiating. A visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. also at United Funeral Service. Burial will be at Glenfield Memorial Gardens.
