Dr. Joel Lamar Rigby, 66

December 1, 1958 – March 31, 2025

PLANTERSVILLE – Dr. Joel Lamar Rigby died Thursday, March 31, 2025 at his residence in Plantersville. He was 66 years old. Born December 1, 1958 in Oklahoma City, OK to Harry Lee Rigby and Dorothy Ascher Rigby, he lived most of his young life in Lake Charles, LA. He attended McNeese State University in Shreveport, LA and graduated summa cum laude. Joel was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society in his sophomore year of medical school while most students are inducted at the end of their junior year or early in their senior year. He married the love of his life, Vicki Underwood, who survives, on August 14, 1982 in Lake Charles, LA, a marriage of 43 years. They moved to Tupelo in 1992 where Joel practiced Urology. They bought a farm in 1997 and began raising quarter horses and later Angus cattle. Joel was a lifetime member of the Mississippi Quarter Horse Association and a member of the National Quarter Horse Association. He raised and showed quarter horses all over the United States and won a number of World Championships. He was a member of the Mississippi State Cattleman’s Association.



A committal service will be held at 5 PM on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at Holland Funeral Directors in Tupelo. Visitation will be from 4 PM to service time. Holland Funeral Directors – Tupelo Chapel is honored to serve the family.

Joel is survived by his wife, Vicki Rigby; children, Joel Rigby (Jay) and James Rigby; and siblings, Dean Rigby (June), and Lee Rigby (Terri). He was preceded in death by his parents, and his children Nathan Rigby and Jennifer Rigby.
