Grand jury will decide whether shooting incident Sunday was justified
Not much information is available about an incident that happened in the Blue Springs area Sunday. One person was apparently dragged by a truck and the person being dragged shot the driver of the truck.
The case will be presented to the grand jury to determine whether it is a case of self-defense, Sheriff Jimmy Edwards said.
Apparently a truck pulled behind a residence and the occupants did not immediately recognize the driver. Someone from the house went out to get the license plate number, and while this happened the truck began backing up.
The man behind the truck got his clothing caught in the truck and was being dragged, the sheriff said. The person being dragged fired a gun at the driver to get him to stop.
The driver was wounded in the right shoulder and taken to the hospital.
The sheriff said he did not think the injury was life-threatening, but they had not had the opportunity to talk with him because he was sedated. Therefore, officials have not been able to determine whether his actions were deliberate or unintentional.
More information may be available if this proves to be a criminal case.
