In keeping with her wishes, Ms. Hood will be cremated, and a service celebrating her remarkable life will be held at a later date. The family welcomes continued prayers and encourages everyone to share the cherished memories and joyful moments made with Ms. Hood throughout the years.
Born on March 21, 1951, in Ripley, Mississippi, Ms. Hood was the beloved daughter of the late Lemuel F. and Lexell B. Ormon Ward. A proud graduate of Ripley High School, she furthered her education at Mississippi State University and Blue Mountain College, earning a bachelor’s degree in education—a calling she fully embraced. For over 25 years, Ms. Hood faithfully served the South Tippah School District as a special education teacher, where her quiet strength, steady patience, and boundless compassion left an indelible mark on generations of students. She saw potential in every child and treated each one as if they were her own, often becoming a guiding light not only in the classroom but in the lives of countless families.
A devoted Christian and faithful member of Beech Hill Church of Christ, Ms. Hood lived a life of simplicity and sincerity. She never sought the spotlight but left a lasting impact through her gentle nature, fierce loyalty, and unwavering love—especially for her son, Jed. Jed was the center of her world, her heart’s pride, and her joy. From every morning with her feet hitting the floor and calling out, “Jed is my coffee ready”, to his earliest musical ventures on the stages he graced later in life, she was there for it all—front row, cheering with unmatched enthusiasm, white hair and cane held high. She may not have shared his taste for country rock, rather she was a fan of heavy metal, Ms. Hood always loved the energy, the community, and most of all, the boy who grew into a man under her watchful, loving care.
Her support was more than maternal—it was inspiring. Between performances, she could be found mingling with band members, offering a kind word or sharing a laugh, never missing a moment to make someone feel seen and appreciated. That was Ms. Hood—steady, warm, and full of heart. Though she lived simply, Ms. Hood’s life was anything but small. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, quiet courage, and unconditional love. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her spirit—gentle, faithful, and fiercely loving—will continue to echo in the lives she touched.
Those left to carry on her great legacy include her son, Jed Hood and his wife, Kelli, one grandson, Keaton Hood, and a wide circle of family and friends.
