Ducks’ splashdown set Saturday at noon during RiverFest
Ducks are getting ready for their big race on the Tallahatchie River this Saturday. The fourth annual Rubber Duck Regatta gets underway at noon off the river bridge in New Albany. The ducks’ lucky owners will win over $1000 in cash prizes.
Approximately 2000 yellow ducks will race to the finish line under the walking bridge during RiverFest this Saturday. Winners will take home cash, thanks to the efforts of New Albany Rotary Club and Union County Heritage Museum. Tickets are $10 per duck, or a Quack Pack of six ducks is $50. A Box of Quackers (12 ducks) is $100.
First place duck will win $500, 2nd place will win $300, 3rd place will win $150 and there will be a Lame Duck winner – $50, a Lucky Duck – $25, and a Random Duck will win $25.
Tickets will be sold up to the race’s starting time.
Tickets will be on sale until race time on Saturday, so it’s not too late to get tickets for the event. Rotary members and Museum Guild members are selling tickets, as well. Witt Spencer is one of the Rotarians who is in charge of this year’s event. He, as well as other members, will be downtown loading ducks into the back hoe, which will dump the ducks and make the big splashdown at noon.
This annual fundraiser helps both organizations with Rotary Club charities as well as Rotary Club’s Creative Spirit gallery sponsorship at the museum.
“We are so grateful to all the businesses who have sponsored the Duck Regatta,” said Jill Smith, museum director. “It is encouraging to see those yellow duck signs around town. Rotary Club members have worked hard, as have the Museum Guild members, in selling tickets.”
