Edd “Billy” Pegues, 87
March 30, 1938 – August 14, 2025
Mr. Edd Adolph Pegues, lovingly known to many as Billy, completed his earthly journey and entered into eternal rest on August 14, 2025, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo, Mississippi. Born on March 30, 1938, in Pontotoc, Mississippi, Billy’s life was a testament to his unwavering faith, his deep love for his family, and his commitment to his community.
Billy was the pillar of his family, sharing sixty years of marriage with his beloved wife, Virginia L. Hobson Pegues. Together, they created a legacy of love and devotion that was evident in every aspect of their lives. Blessed with a large and loving family, Billy was a cherished father to his sons, Ricky Pegues, Reverend Gregory Pegues, Travis Pegues, Micheal “Mikal Hakeem” Pegues, and his daughter, Sandra Pegues. The joy of his life was multiplied through his grandchildren, Emily Copeland, Bradley Pegues, Blake Pegues, Yasmin Selin Kearse, and Tareq Hakeem, as well as his great-grandchildren, Aiden Copeland and Kyler Pegues.
Billy served as a faithful Deacon at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where his Christian faith was the cornerstone of his existence. His dedication to the Lord and his church was evident in his daily life and in the way he treated others. Billy’s work ethic was unparalleled; he was employed for 44 years with Day-Brite in Tupelo, Mississippi, where he formed many lasting friendships and was respected by all who knew him.
Among the joys of his life were the simple pleasures of running his tractor and spending time with his beagle dogs. These interests reflected Billy’s love for God’s creation and his appreciation for the beauty of the natural world. His presence was a source of strength and comfort to all who knew him, and his legacy of integrity, hard work, and faithfulness will continue to inspire those he left behind.
Billy is lovingly remembered by his wife, Virginia Pegues; his sons, Ricky Pegues of Pontotoc, MS, Reverend Gregory Pegues (Teressa) of Belden, MS, Travis Pegues (Felisha) of Pontotoc, MS, Micheal “Mikal Hakeem” Pegues of Lorton, VA; his daughter, Sandra Pegues of Lorton, VA; his grandchildren, Emily Copeland of Tupelo, MS, Bradley Pegues of Belden, MS, Blake Pegues (Jennifer) of Olive Branch, MS, Yasmin Selin Kearse (John) of Woodbridge, VA, Tareq Hakeem of Woodbridge, VA; his great grandchildren, Aiden Copeland of Shannon, MS and Kyler Pegues of Olive Branch, MS; his sisters, Alice Pegues of Pontotoc, MS, Lois Duff of Pontotoc, MS, Gretie Jordan of Norman, IL, Rosie Judon of Pontotoc, MS, Linda Faye Key (Greg) of Baldwyn, MS, Hellen Foster of Wyoming, MI, Ellen Pegues of Pontotoc, MS; his brothers, James Pegues (Dianne) of Algoma, MS, Auther Pegues of Baldwyn, MS, Jeffery Pegues of Pontotoc, MS; his sisters-in-law Charlene White (Larry) of Algoma, MS, Ruby Doris Pegues of Ecru, MS, Ruby Fitzpatrick of Algoma, MS, Shelia Foote of Tupelo, MS, Shirley Hicks of Jackson, MS, Regina Golden (Reverend Glen) of Pontotoc, MS, Ethel May Hobson of Algoma, MS, Marilyn Hobson of Algoma, MS, Barbara Foote of Woodland, MS; his brothers-in-law Curtis Hobson of Pontotoc, MS, Desoto Hobson of Pontotoc, MS, Will Hobson (Bessie) of Algoma, MS; a special daughter-in-law, Sema Gulmez of Woodbridge, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom will miss him dearly.
