Elmer B. Feathers, 78 of Ashland, MS, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at Resthaven Nursing Home in Ripley, MS.
A memorial service with Military Honors will be at 2 PM, Friday, July 25, 2025, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12 PM until time of service with Bro. Doc Shelton officiating.
Born on January 18, 1947, in Holly Springs, Mississippi, to the late George “Shot” and Hazel Mae Houston Feathers, he received his education in Holly Springs and subsequently served his country with pride as a Sergeant in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War. He completed two tours of duty there over a span of eight years and earned the National Defense Medal, the Purple Heart medal as well as the Presidential Unit Citation medal. Never missing a chance to tell stories of his time spent in the war or of his younger years, he always felt the greatest joy when others would thank him for his service. Following his departure from the Marines, he transitioned into a career as a truck driver, ultimately teaming up with his wife, Bettie, before retiring from the profession.
In addition to his dedication to our nation, Mr. Feathers found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a passion for working on cars, or engaging in any activity that kept him occupied. Always ready to assist others whenever needed, he possessed a heart that was larger than life. For him, visiting his family was of utmost importance, frequently “making the circle” by traveling to the homes of each of his sons and cherishing the time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to carry on his legacy include two son, Gene Feathers (Ginny) of Waterford, MS, and Clevie Feathers (Jenny) of Myrtle, MS, four brothers, Will Feathers, Jimmy Feathers (Pattie), Earl Feathers (Virginia), and Dean Feathers (Linda), five grandchildren, Kayla, Bailey, Kyle, Kacey, and Gabbi, six great-grandchildren, Martha, Gavin, McKynzi, Skylar, Dominic and Khamari and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of thirty-two years, Bettie Louise Riemath Feathers, one brother, George “Buddy” Feathers and his faithful canine companion of fourteen years, Angel.
