‘Elvis’ provides thanks to local emergency responders
New Albany businessman Joel Bennett decided he wanted to do something that would show appreciation to local law enforcement, fire, medical and other emergency responders. He also did not want it to be political.
As it turns out, the solution was easy because he’s friends with The King, Elvis.
Actually, he is friends with Tupelo businessman Jack Curtis, who also happens to be a well-known Elvis impersonator. Both apparently are diehard golfers and often play together. The idea of putting on a free Elvis show may have been born one day when Curtis, about to blast his way out of the sand, began singing “Caught in a trap… in his best Elvis voice”
Curtis performed the free concert on the back loading dock of Hamilton Place, which Bennett owns, and sang a variety of Elvis hits plus some by other artists.
Audience members also had the opportunity to get boiled peanuts and Elvis favorites peanut butter and banana and grilled cheese sandwiches to munch on.
