Expansion, renovations on county library under consideration

New Albany, MS- A meeting Monday morning at the Union County Public Library may foretell improvements to that facility.

Librarian Kay Sappington and J. Lynn West, the president of the library board, met with Debbie Wilbanks Cherry, AIA, an architect with A2H Engineers and Architects of Oxford.

They were considering possible renovations and expansions to the library building that could result in additional utilization of the building.

New Albany city officials have said they are interested in opening a welcome center for the Tanglefoot Trail at the library, which is adjacent to a large city-owned parking lot. Many out-of-town cyclists park their motor vehicles at that parking lot while they use the Tanglefoot Trail.

Among other things, it is believed the Monday meeting included discussion of what modifications might have to be made to the library structure so the welcome center could be located there.

Great to see good planning and innovative thinking. This will provide maximum benefits for the money available. Every one wins. The library is in need of funds and renovations and a welcome center is certainly needed. Bravo for thinking outside the box!
