Board ironing out details for this year’s Union County Fair
The Union County Fair Board met Monday evening to iron out details for this year’s fair, scheduled for July 13-17 this year. This will be the 80th anniversary of the community event.
Last year’s fair was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The fair will include the usual events such as pageants, livestock exhibitions, a rodeo, youth night, senior citizens day and back porch games.
The only real change is that senior citizens day will be a drive-through event. Organizers hope to bring back the sit-down meal and Bingo next year.
The Tiny Mr. and Miss Union County Fair Pageant will be Tuesday, July 13. It is for girls through two years old and boys through age three.
The Little Miss Union County Fair pageant will be Thursday, July 15. It is for girls ages 3-8.
The Miss Union County Fair Pageant will be Friday, July 16. If is for girls ages 9-21. The contests for ages 9-16 are only open to Union County residents. The 17-21 age range is open to all Northeast Mississippi counties and $1,100 in scholarships will be awarded.
The market goat and market lamb shows will be Tuesday, as will the archery contest.
Senior citizens day will be Wednesday and youth night will be that evening.
The youth rodeo will be Thursday and include barrel, pole and stake racing, individual and team roping and other events.
The rodeo will conclude the fair as the main event.
The beef show will be Friday and Saturday.
Finally, the pet show and back porch games will be Saturday.
