Author Richard Grant is the featured speaker for the 2018 Faulkner Awards Luncheon.

The annual Faulkner Literary Luncheon will be held Friday, September 28, noon, at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in New Albany. Guest speaker will be Richard Grant, author of the book Dispatches from Pluto.

The winners of the William Faulkner Literary Competition 2018 will also be announced at the luncheon. Writers from throughout the world have competed and won this literary contest, which gives cash awards in categories of novel, short story, one-act play and poetry.

Grant works as an author and travel journalist. He grew up in London, England, and now lives in Jackson, Mississippi. His latest book is the best-selling Dispatches from Pluto: Lost and Found in the Mississippi Delta, about his move to the Mississippi Delta. It was the winner of the Pat Connroy Southern Book Prize. Other of Grant’s projects include the BBC documentary film American Nomads, hosted, narrated and written by Grant.

The author’s wander lust provided fodder for his first book American Nomads, Travels With Lost Conquistadors, Mountain Men, Cowboys, Indians, Hoboes, Truckers and Bull Riders published in 2003. Grant then began travelling in the northern Mexico, a sparsely populated mountain range situated south of the American border extending for more than 600 miles. These travels resulted in his second book God’s Middle Finger, Into The Lawless Heart of the Sierra Madre published in 2008.

His third book Crazy River: Exploration and Folly in East Africa chronicles his efforts to make the first descent of the Malagarasi River in Tanzania, and subsequent projects in Burundi and Rwanda.

Tickets to the event are $15.00. Contact the museum at 662-538-0014 for information.
