Ferrell named New Albany High School principal
On May 19, 2017, New Albany School District’s Board of Trustees approved
John Ferrell as theNew Albany High School Principal, effective July
1, 2017.
A native of Booneville, Mississippi, Ferrell received his bachelor’s and
master’s degrees from the University of Mississippi. His professional
background at New Albany includes 13 years of experience as a classroom
teacher, baseball and football coach, and Assistant Principal.
Ferrell is currently director of the New Albany School of Career and
Technical Education and has served in that position since 2010. Under
Ferrell’s leadership, the Career and Technical school has increased
National Certification programs as well as test scores.
New Albany School District’s Superintendent Lance Evans is confident in
Ferrell’s leadership: “Mr. Ferrell’s proven track record of success has
prepared him for this next step in his career. Mr. Ferrell’s talents
and unique leadership style will allow New Albany High School to
continue its innovative educational environment and remain focused on
the mission of making New Albany High School the best high school in the
state of Mississippi.”
John is married to Heather Ferrell, who has been teaching special
education at New Albany High School for the past 12 years. They have
two children who both attend New Albany Elementary School.
Ferrell is excited about the new challenge: “New Albany is my home, and
I am committed to its students and faculty. Since I believe this is the
best school district in the state, I will continue to provide avenues
for all students to receive a quality education.”
