Fire Department corners elusive lizard
It’s not unusual for the fire department to be called in to effect rescues, but a call Saturday may be a first.
Acting Chief Mark Whiteside said they received a call from the Hampton Inn that a pet iguana had escaped and was on the side of the building.
Police officers and sheriff’s deputies responded as well and fire crews were able use their ladder truck to retrieve the green fugitive, which was said to be quite valuable.
“The owners of the pet were extremely happy to have it back in their possession…and I am sure others guest of the hotel were also,” Whiteside said.
The report did not say how the iguana had escaped and made it to the hotel exterior.
