County fire departments honor Coker with reception
Members of the Union County and New Albany fire departments gave former Union County Fire Coordinator Steve Coker a reception Monday at the Ladies Building at the Union County Fairgrounds.
Coker resigned this past month for health reasons.
Those present expressed thanks for Coker’s dedication and presented him with a commemorative firefighter’s plaque from all the departments and a special firefighter’s commemorative edition Henry repeating rifle.
“This is going on 28 years,” Coker said of his firefighting career, “and I’m not done yet.”
Coker said he expects to come back and work some later this year, even though he is formally retiring as City of New Albany Fire Chief at the end of this month.
“Y’all keep it going and thank you so much,” he said.
Those present shared a barbecue dinner and specially designed cake.
