Fire in motor vehicle seriously injures one person

An individual received life-threatening injuries in a fire in Ford pickup at a retail store near Sherman about 2 p.m Saturday, March 5.

According to New Albany Fire Chief Mark Whiteside, the incident was at a Dollar General Store just inside Union County  on Highway 178. New Albany Rescue and fire departments from Sherman, East Union and Southeast responded, as did an ambulance from Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County.

The patient received emergency treatment at the scene. A Care Flight helicopter and crew transported the patient to the emergency department of North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. No further details are known at this time.

The fire and victim were in the white Ford pickup in the right center background of the photo above. The exterior of the Dollar General Store also received some fire damage.
