New Albany giving away free coronavirus masks

The New Albany Community Development Office is handing out free N95 masks Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

They have received 2,400 masks from the Mississippi Emergency Management Authority and are handing them out behind their office, which is the old post office downtown, from the rear loading dock. People should enter from Camp Street and exit onto Bankhead Street.

The masks come in packs of five and they are allowing people to pick up masks on behalf of others who may not be able to drive to the giveaway.

A steady stream of drivers was coming by to pick up masks before noon and some people were walking up.

Community Development Director Billye Jean Stroud said they will probably hold another giveaway if they have masks left over or receive more later.
