Get free oak trees at the Tanglefoot in New Albany today

The New Albany Sustainability Advisory in cooperation with the Mississippi Forestry Commission is giving away free oak trees at the Tanglefoot Plaza Tuesday, March 10, until about 4 p.m.

NASA member Jeff Olson said the 400 trees are part of a shared grant that also helps mark Arbor Day, which nationally is the last Friday in April.

The free seedlings include chestnut oak, cherry bark oak and shumard oak – the chestnut oak being mentioned as a favorite of deer. The seedlings mare small but should grow to full size, especially if planted in sun and neither too much or too little water.

Anyone interested can get as many trees as he or she wishes until they run out. Fugham’s Inc. is helping with the tree giveaway, Olson said.
