Gary Young Adair, 72
July 13, 1952 – September 11, 2024
Gary Young Adair, known fondly to friends and family as Gary, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024, in Olive Branch, MS. Born on July 13, 1952, in New Albany, MS, Gary’s life was a melody composed of love, laughter, and music. His legacy is one of joy and harmony, leaving behind a chorus of memories for all who knew him.
A proud graduate of Ingomar High School in 1970, Gary’s education set the stage for a life rich in creativity and performance. From the tender age of 13, music coursed through his veins, and by 17, he was captivating audiences with his rhythmic drum beats and soulful vocals. Gary’s passion for music led him to share the stage with icons such as Stevie Nicks, Waylon Jennings, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Charley Pride. His talent was so renowned that he even played at Rose Ann Barr’s fortieth birthday party. Yet, among all the stars, Gary’s heart belonged to The Settlers, a group that was most dear to him.
Beyond the spotlight, Gary was a devoted fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers, his loyalty never wavering through the seasons. His love for the game was only matched by his love for the beach, with Gulf Shores, AL, holding a special place in his heart as his favorite retreat.
Gary’s life was a testament to his passionate, funny, and friendly nature. Those who were fortunate to cross paths with him were often touched by his kindness and his ability to light up a room with his humor. His melodies will echo in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 11:00 am at Martin Cemetery.
Born to Frederick Young Adair and Mary Ellen Logan Adair, who preceded him in death, Gary’s roots were firmly planted in love and family. He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Sandy Murry Adair, and his son, Cory Adair, who will continue to honor his memory by living out the values he instilled in them.
Gary’s life was a beautiful song, each chapter a verse that contributed to an unforgettable chorus. His departure leaves a silence that will be deeply felt by all. Yet, in the quiet moments, we find comfort in knowing that his music plays on, a timeless melody of a life well-lived.
As we bid farewell to Gary Young Adair, we celebrate the harmony he brought to our lives. His story does not end here, for in our memories and in the music he loved so dearly, he will forever be with us. Rest in peace, Gary; your song will always be sung.
