Gayla Ann Glover Bates, 71
June 11, 1954 – March 27, 2026
Gayla Ann Glover Bates, age 71, departed her walk in this earthly life and entered into her eternal Heavenly home on Friday morning, March 27, 2026, at Tippah County Nursing Home.
Funeral services honoring Gayla’s life will be held at 4 PM Sunday, March 29, 2026, in the Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home, with visitation from 2 PM until time of service. Bro. Doc Shelton and Bro. W. C. Alexander will officiate. Burial, with a graveside service, will follow in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery in Walnut.
Born June 11, 1954, in Tippah County, Gayla was the beloved daughter of the late Louis Earl and Gladys Antwine Glover. A proud graduate of Walnut High School, she dedicated over twenty years of faithful service to the Pep Industry before her retirement.
A devoted Christian and member of Harmony Baptist Church, Gayla’s life was a living testimony of love in action. She found her greatest joy in caring for others, and her nurturing spirit left a lasting imprint on countless lives. She played a vital role in the upbringing of many of her nieces and nephews, along with her great-nieces and great-nephews, loving them as her own. To them, she wasn’t just an aunt—she was a second mother, a safe place, and a source of constant laughter and comfort.
Known for her quick wit and joyful spirit, Gayla had a way of brightening any room she entered. You never quite knew what she might say, but you could always count on a smile or a hearty laugh to follow. Children especially gravitated toward her, drawn by her playful nature and kind heart.
In her quieter moments, Gayla found peace and happiness in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, and riding ponies and wagons—embracing life with a childlike joy that never faded. She took great pride in serving the Lord, including her time with the Mt. Pleasant Woman’s Outreach, where she continued her mission of helping others.
Though words can never fully capture the beauty of Gayla’s life, her legacy is clearly seen in the love she gave so freely. She was devoted to her family, loyal to her friends, and steadfast in her faith. Today, we take comfort in knowing she has received her Heavenly reward—her crown adorned with jewels, and her cup truly running over—as she rests in the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
In addition to her brother, Louis Glover, those left to cherish her memory include a host of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews whom she loved and raised as her own, along with a wide and cherished circle of extended family and dear friends.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Bo Bates, and her three brothers, Bobby Lynn, Billy Earl, and Jerry Wayne Glover.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love, care, and compassion shown to Gayla and their family during her illness. A special thanks is extended to Tippah County Nursing Home and Hospital, Gentiva Hospice, her devoted caregivers and aides, and Ripley Funeral Home for their kindness and support.
In honor of Gayla’s life and legacy, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
