October 11, 1926 – June 19, 2024

George Washington “G. W.” Wright Jr., age 97, entered into his heavenly home after departing this life on June 19, 2024, at his home in Ashland, MS.

Funeral Services honoring the life of Mr. Wright will be at 3 PM Monday June 24, 2024, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home with visitation from 1 PM until service time on Monday June 24, 2024. Bro Stanley Huddleston will officiate, and burial will follow in New Salem Cemetery.

Born on October 11, 1926, in Tiplersville, MS, to the late George Washington Wright Sr, and Frankie Carter Wright, Mr. Wright received his education from Walnut High School and was a certified welder with the metal fabrication industry for fifty-two years before his retirement. A Christian, he was a member of Ashland Primitive Baptist Church, where he attended faithfully to hear God’s word and worship with others.

Mr. Wright was a well-respected man in his small community. He was a remarkable husband who cared and loved his wife, an exceptional father, who provided for his children always, and a true friend that people could rely on. He loved being in God’s creation and was quite the outdoorsman, always producing a large vegetable garden, sharing his crop with others, tending to his cows and chickens, farming and working the land.

Mr. Wright lived a long full life and believed in hard work and keeping life simple, surrounding himself with family and friends, and always loving the Lord full heartedly. He leaves an impact on those who knew him best and a legacy that will continue to be cherished for all the days to come.

Those left to cherish his memories include two daughters, Pat Boone, and Teresa Gresham (Larry), one son, David Wright (Theresa), a daughter in law, Freda Wright, nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.

He was met in heaven by the love of his life for 79 years, Mary Lois Huddleston Wright, his son, Ronny Wright, his great grandson, Joseph Hunter Mills, his son in law, Joe Boone, and all of his siblings, Herman Wright, Wilford Wright, Roy Wright, Lila Reaves, Ollie Dickerson, Avy Weaver, Juanita Dunlap, and Christine Adams.
