Gilbert “Buster” Clark Sanders, Jr., 85

February 1, 1941 — June 17, 2026

Gilbert “Buster” Clark Sanders Jr., of Columbus, MS, formerly of Memphis, TN, passed away peacefully at home on June 16 at age 85.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Glenfield Funeral Home in New Albany, followed by a celebration of life service at 12:30 p.m. The Rev. John Daniels, Buster’s nephew, will officiate, and burial will follow in Glenfield Memorial Park.

Born in Noxubee County, MS, to Gilbert and Janie Murray Sanders, Buster was raised in Foxtrap, MS. He was the final owner of Columbus Beauty & Barber Supply Company and worked for Aramark in Memphis until retiring in 2006, earning recognition as a supervisor for his dedication and outstanding service. Even after retirement, he stayed busy with projects and often kept a watchful eye in a supervisory role, joking, “Hey, you missed a spot.” He supported Erma’s real estate business, managed rental properties, and took pride in doing many repairs and maintenance projects himself.

Buster was married to Erma Denton Sanders for 16 years before her death in January 2018. He is survived by his sons, Gil Sanders III (Angela) and Will Sanders, CPA (Leslie Sorrell); Erma’s daughters, Leigh Ann and Leslie; grandchildren Clark Sanders IV (Monica), Alex Sanders (Lydia), Lauren Rosebrock (Brian), and Elizabeth Sanders; great-grandson Noah Rosebrock; sisters Sara Linda Daniels (Vern, deceased) and Amelia Jane Austin (Pete, deceased); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mae Sue Richards (Rod, deceased).

Buster enjoyed hosting family gatherings that began promptly on his schedule. He entertained his grandchildren with fishing trips, paddle boat rides, and stories from the old homeplace. He especially liked supervising family building projects, offering practical advice, and finding creative solutions to difficult tasks. He also enjoyed lunches with friends at Kountry Kitchen, watching birds and grazing deer, and repeatedly trying to keep the deer out of his flower beds. One of his greatest joys was helping others.

Glenfield Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the care and arrangements of Mr. Sanders.
