Union County sits on top of large deposits of Late Cretaceous fossils as well as many Ice Age creatures. The permanent exhibits show many of these spectacular creatures, and our collection is growing. Thanks to people like George Phillips from the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science who will be speaking about recent finds at 11, as well identifying artifacts that people bring. He is knowledgeable and dedicated to the science.

NEMiss.News Experts ID public finds

Experts will identify finds brought in by the public.

“We invite people to bring in their collections to show and to be identified – artifacts as well as fossils,” Smith said.

“This year we are very happy to host Brad and Blake Pressley who will bring their live Mississippi snake collection to show as well as do an educational program at 10:30. Avid artifact collectors, the Pressley brothers have also become very knowledgeable about the snakes in Mississippi and this will be a great time to learn about the good ones and the bad ones.

The Pressley Native point charts will also be available at this event.

The Memphis Gem and Mineral Society will be on hand for those who wish to shop the unique minerals and stone from this collection. And the North Mississippi Gem and Minerals Society will be on hand with a Fossil Dig for kids. We will have Rock Painting and other fun hands-on activities for kids.
