“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelations 21:4
A man who cut a wide path and lived life to its fullest, Gregory Hugh Whitehead, best known as Greg to all those who loved him, departed this life unexpectedly Monday February 10, 2025, at the Tippah County Hospital, surrounded by his wide circle of family, as they said goodbye.
Home going service celebrating Greg’s life will be at 3 PM Monday February 17, 2025, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Clark and Bro. Doc Shelton officiating. Visitation will be from 11 AM until time of service on Monday February 17, 2025, at Ripley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Wiers Chapel Cemetery.
On November 1, 1978, in the old Tippah County Hospital, Greg was born to the late Hugh Whitehead, and Mrs. Carolyn Leopard Whitehead. He received his education from the South Tippah School district, as he attended Blue Mountain, Falkner, and Pine Grove during the course of his life. A Jack of all trades, Greg posed talented hands, for he believed if something was broken, he could fix it. He was a mechanic, who worked on his own vehicles, plumber, who was always there to help his mother, Mrs. Carolyn, and roofer and carpenter, that never failed to offer a helping hand to anyone.
A Christian, Greg was a true lover of life, as favorite pastimes consisted of being outdoors, fishing and hunting, working on cars, and playing video games, as Red Dead was his favorite. His family was first and foremost in his life, for the love he had for them was clear to see. He loved his wife, Vickie, whole heartedly, was unendingly proud of his children, Lance, Brady, Michael, Alan, Kristy, and Cheyenne, and nothing made him prouder, than being Pawpaw to all his grandchildren. He was their shoulder to cry on, foundation that help them up, and glue that brought them together, as he always worried about them, rooted for them, protected them, provided for them, and loved them. He was one of a kind and to be loved by him was to be blessed.
During the course of Greg’s life, he made many friends along the way, for he was just the kind of person who drew people in. His outgoing personality, easy going nature, and willingness to help others were just a few traits that stood out the most. Although our hearts are broken and we don’t understand why, we find comfort in knowing that one day we will get to see him again. Until then we are forever grateful that Greg was our peace during the storm, our joy during life’s difficulties, and our everything during his time on earth.
In addition to his mother, Carolyn, and his wife, Vickie Geller, his legacy will continue to live on through his two daughters, Kristy Nelson (David), and Cheyenne Colburn (Ben), four sons, Charles Lance Whitehead, Brady Whitehead, Michael Schwenk (Krista), and Alan Geller (Madison), one sister, Tracy Stanfield, two brothers, Jerry Whitehead (Cat), and Randy Whitehead (Becky), eleven grandchildren, Kylee, Karley, Lexie, Serenity, Kamil, Freya, Hayden, Kaylee, Olivia, Amara, and Paisley, his mother in law, Mary White, and a host of cousins, family, and friends.
Along with his father, Hugh Whitehead, Greg was welcomed into Heaven by his father-in-law, Charles White.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Phil Leopard, Jonathan J. D. Stach, Shane Wright, Taylor Humphrey, Alan Geller, Kolby Howell, and Michael Schwenk.
