Gwenda H. Salters, 67

December 27, 1957 – October 20, 2025

Gwenda Hodges Salters, affectionately known as “Gwen,” peacefully departed this life, October 20, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi. She was 67 years old.

Born December 27, 1957, in Tupelo, Gwen was the beloved daughter of the late Floyd Hodges and Helen Hodges Robinson. A woman of deep faith, Gwen accepted Christ at Kimble Chapel M. B. Church, where she remained a devoted and faithful member throughout her life. She joyfully served in many roles, including youth director, choir member, and on the usher board, sharing her warm spirit and tireless dedication with her church family.

Gwen was a graduate of Belden High School, Class of 1976. After retiring from her career in retail services, Gwen worked at Community Development Foundation (CDF), where she made a lasting impression on all who walked through CDF’s doors. Her joyful heart left an unforgettable mark on both colleagues and visitors alike.

Gwen was definitely known for her love of fashion, always showing off her superior taste. Her talents extended far beyond the workplace. She had a deep love for sewing, arts and crafts, baking, and cooking—gifts she shared generously with her family and friends. More than anything, Gwen cherished time spent with her loved ones.

She was married for 31 years to Lester V. Salters, the love of her life, until his death in 2008. They had two children, Nieshay Garmon and Tavares Salters. Her love and legacy continue through them and through the generations that follow.

Gwen is survived by her daughter Nieshay Garmon, son Tavares Salters; grandchildren Marquis King (Aaliyah Sherrod), Tylon Garmon (Tajanae), and Didymus Garmon; great-grandchildren Kylar, Kyzen, and Kaislyn King; her siblings Floyd Hodges (Delores), Janneth Hodges, and Terry Hodges; her aunts and uncles; several nieces and nephews; and her church family, colleagues, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister Patricia Osborne.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Kimble Chapel M. B. Church, 3215 Walsh Road, Belden, MS from 10:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m., followed by the celebration of life service at 12 p.m.
