Popular local Hee Haw returning to civic center next month
The Magnolia Civic Center will once again play host to Hee Haw, an annual variety show produced by New Albany Community Theater (formerly Tallahatchie River Players). At 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13, and Saturday, Aug. 14, audiences will enjoy a night of jokes, sketches and songs featuring the Hee Haw Band. A portion of all proceeds from this event are donated to Relay For Life.
New Albany’s theatre group began putting on this variety show semi-annually in 2008. How did they first get started? Says Cathy Garrett, “In Hardeman County, Tenn. where I’m from, they started a Hee Haw show in the late 1970s to raise money for Relay For Life. It was based on the highly popular television show. I kept telling our theater group we should do the same thing, and they were skeptical, until I took them to Bolivar to see the show. They thought it was great and from there our Hee Haw group was born.”
Tickets for the upcoming show are $10 each and seats are reserved at time of purchase. Please visit the Main Street office at 135 East Bankhead St. to purchase tickets with cash or check and select your seats. They are unable to take card payments for this event. Please call the box office at (662) 539-3909 with any questions.
