Helen Lindsey, 94
June 14, 1930 – August 22, 2024
“What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see…”, lyrics Helen Moore Lindsey, 94, often heard, was experienced when she entered heaven’s gates August 22, 2024 following an extended debilitating condition. As was her demeanor in life, her death was quiet, calm, and peaceful. Because of home hospice care, provided by HomeCare/Legacy, end of life care began immediately upon her condition change assuring continuous comfort.
She was born to William Moore and Inez Lutz Moore, June 14,1930 in Hocking County, Ohio. Lancaster, Ohio was her home until marriage to James Lindsey moved her South. Myrtle, MS was her primary residence when she and family were not traveling the country for her husband’s work. In later years, she enjoyed country life in Cotton Plant next to daughter, Mary’s, home until she so eagerly reached her destination, in her “Father’s House.” It is not clear she ever recovered from the culture shock of moving South, as after 73 years she continued to be a loyal Ohio Buckeyes Fan.
Idle hands were not tolerated by this hardworking mother of three. She instilled the importance of good work ethics, being self-sufficient and giving to others which has been carried on by 3 additional generations. Her home was an open door for guests who enjoyed welcoming hospitality and her delicious home cooked meals. All were assured to go home with a goody bag. She cherished family time, always making birthdays and holidays a major event.
Other than cooking, she enjoyed gardening, especially flowers which were always in colorful abundance. Her sewing and quilting skills proved to be award winning. Every family member was gifted their own special quilt, colors and patterns chosen specifically for them. She loved dogs always supporting any stray’s care. The past years, she made herself content just listening and talking with whomever was around as her eyesight and disability prohibited her from doing the things she loved. Listening to gospel music and preaching was her main pastime. Her strong, unwavering faith sustained her during this phase of her life.
She is remembered as a loyal employee at Futorian for over 40 years where she was in charge of the Sears account. She was not the department manager; however, her coworkers and bosses all knew the department was run by her.
Her loving legacy is to be carried on by daughter, Mary Foley, Granddaughters Tonya Shackelford (Ryan) Tampa Florida, Kim Ogle(Jared) Lexington Ky, Jessica Haley (Daniel) Olive Branch, MS, Amanda Baird (Randy) New Albany, Audra Ash (Jay) Myrtle, grandson Steve Lindsey. Great grandchildren Alyssa Shackelford Ballard (Dylan), Paige Shackelford, Ty Ogle, Spencer Haley, Sarah Morgan Haley, Josie Baird, Maggie Baird, Liam Baird, Westlee Ash, Dylan Ash, Olivia Ash, Jessie Ash, Addison Lindsey and Paden Lindsey, long time loving bonus daughters Susan Roberts and Carolyn Lindsey, sister Judy Morgan of Ohio as well as a plethora of nieces and nephews. Her many friends and Home Care/ Legacy team are not left out of her circle of love and influence.
She was preceded in death by parents, husband Jimmy Lindsey, sons Paul and Jesse Lindsey, Son in law David Foley, and grandson Craig Foley. The oldest of 10 siblings, she outlived all except for mentioned Judy.
Her grand celebration of life will be Monday, August 26 with visitation 11:00 until 1:00 service at United Funeral Home in New Albany MS. Burial will be at Gerizim in Myrtle. Although she loved flowers, she would be best honored by memorials being given to charities or most specifically to The Craig Foley Scholarship at Hillcrest Baptist Church in New Albany.
