Helen Marie Shamblin, 85

September 9, 1938 – August 27, 2024

Helen Marie Shamblin was born September 9, 1938 to the late Roosevelt and Carrie Traylor. She grew up and attended school in Union County, Mississippi.

At an early age she accepted Christ and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in Myrtle, Mississippi. She attended faithfully until her passing.

Marie was a mother to four children: Ricky Shamblin, Karl Shamblin, Jerry Shamblin, and Robert Shamblin.

Marie was known as a superb master gardener. She loved fashion and always made sure she was “looking good and fine as wine.” She enjoyed cooking, attending church, working crossword puzzles, watching daytime soaps, and bossing people around. She loved her family and friends, and always made sure everyone was taken care of.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roosevelt and Carrie Traylor; her brothers, Ivory, Freddie B., William, Roy Lee, and R.C.; and her sister, Mary Eloise Manning.

Marie leaves to cherish her loving memories: four children, Ricky Shamblin, Karl Shamblin, Jerry (Sedina) Shamblin, and Reverend Robert Shamblin; thirteen grandchildren, Shalay, Shenita, Ricky, Jr., Latoya, Charlene, Shontell, Trinity, Taloria, Robert, Christina, Christopher, Brunson, and Cherelle; a host of great grandchildren; one sister, Hattie Sue Jones; one brother, Robert Traylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, August 30, 2024, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM, with family hour from 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM at Payton Mortuary. Funeral service will be Sunday, September 1, 2024, at 3:30 PM at Watson Grove Baptist Church, 521 East Bankhead Street, New Albany, MS. Viewing will be available one hour before service.
