Two fire departments responded to a call about 2:40 p.m. Thursday on the 1100 block of Hwy. 30 West.

“New Albany Rescue assisted West Union and Myrtle Fire Departments on a structure fire Thursday afternoon,” New Albany Fire Chief Mark Whiteside posted.

Initial reports were there was a possibility that a person may have returned to the interior of the burning home.

“Upon arrival Rescue, Truck 2, FD 1 and 2 arrived and reported heavy smoke coming from the majority of the home with confirmation all residents were out of the home and safe,” Whiteside said.

Crews entered and extinguished the fire quickly. Hwy 30 West was shut down due to fire trucks sitting in both lanes.

“West Union crews were still on the scene when New Albany left to finish up operations,” he said.
