Holiday shopping begins in earnest this Sunday

The semi-official beginning of the holiday shopping season begins this Sunday, Nov. 8, with the New Albany Main Street-sponsored Holiday Open House.

Merchants in the historic downtown area, as well as some in other parts of the city, will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. hoping to lure shoppers in for early Christmas specials.

The event usually draws crowds and with good weather forecast, this should be no exception despite COVID-19 cautions.

In addition to special deals and promotions downtown the Magnolia Civic Center will have a holiday backdrop set up for anyone who wants to make photos with a festive spirit.

Some merchants also offer refreshments as well.

After Sunday, the next community holiday event will be the lighting of the Christmas tree in Cooper Park Thursday. Nov. 19, and the New Albany Christmas Parade Monday, Nov. 30.
