Hoyle David Morgan, 71

August 18, 1954  –  January 13, 2026

Birmingham Ridge-Hoyle David Morgan, 71, of Saltillo, passed away on Tuesday, Jan 13, 2026, at NMMC in Tupelo after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He was born in Tupelo on August 18, 1954, to the late Joe Morgan and the late Billie Sue Arnold Morgan. He was a 1973 graduate of Saltillo High School, attended Itawamba Junior College where he played football, and graduated from Mississippi State University in May of 1977 with a degree in Agriculture Engineering Technology and Business.



David worked for the Mississippi Dept. of Agriculture and Commerce in Jackson before returning home to Saltillo. He worked for many years as an environmental engineer specializing in water treatment before his health forced him to retire. He was nationally recognized for his work and received calls asking for help after his retirement. He was staunch in his beliefs and never failed to offer his opinion. He married the former Debbie Long of Birmingham Ridge at St. James Catholic Church on June 14, 1975. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in June 2025.

A service celebrating his life will take place at 3 PM Friday, Jan. 16 2026, in the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with Pastor Jay Stanley officiating. His son, Will, will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be in the Saltillo City Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 PM Friday only and continue until service time. David is survived by his wife, one daughter Emilia Thomason (John) of Starkville, and one son Will Morgan (Carlee) of Saltillo, the joys of his life-his four granddaughters, Bella Rose and Mia Claire Morgan and Rosie and Virginia Grace Thomason; one brother Dennis Morgan, his sisters-in-law, Earline Morgan, Teresa Gregory (Scott), Mary Jo Brown and a brother-in-law, Jim Bucy Long, and many nieces and nephews.

David is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Don Morgan, his mother- and father-in law, Jimmy and Anita Joe Bucy Long, and one brother-in-law, Kennon Brown.

Pallbearers will be Brian Morgan, Scott Messer, Jared Koon, Joseph Koon, Charlie Bronc Anderson, John Allen Brown, John Bucy Long and Christopher Vasquez. Special thanks to NMMC Hospice for their care.
