Truck rollover ties up Hwy. 30 West

,

A truck accident caused traffic from Hwy. 30 West to be rerouted along Martintown and Bratton Roads starting about 5:15 p.m. Thursday after an 18-wheeler rolled over into a ditch.

Police Chief Chris Robertson said the trucker, who did not appear to be injured, was travelling west on Hwy. 30 West when a vehicle slowed in front of him to turn left onto Martintown Road. The truck driver, who may not be familiar with this area, took evasive action to go around the vehicle on the right.

However, his load, that the chief said he believed was groceries, apparently shifted causing the truck to roll over into the ditch.

Truck traffic is usually directed to take the Glenfield exit from I-22 if they plan to take Hwy. 30 West to keep them from the more heavily trafficked area but it was not known whether the driver was coming from I-22 or Bankhead Street.

It was not clear how long traffic might be tied up because the trailer may have to be unloaded before it can be pulled upright and back onto the road.

The tractor sustained some damage and was nestled in the ditch.

Tire tracks show the truck might have made it except for the load shifting and edging into the ditch.
