Idris “Ish” Vernard Johnson, 49
March 16, 1977 – July 11, 2026
“Some people leave an impression everywhere they go—not because they seek attention, but because they make others feel seen, valued, and loved. Idris Vernard Johnson was one of those people.”
To know Idris was to know kindness, loyalty, laughter, and unconditional love. He possessed a quiet strength, a generous heart, and a smile that could brighten any room. Whether he was spending time with family, encouraging a friend, cheering on his favorite football team, or lending a helping hand, Idris made people feel valued. He believed in working hard, loving deeply, and making the most of every moment with those he cherished.
Born on March 16, 1977, in Tupelo, Mississippi, Idris was the beloved son of Alice Johnson and Steve Johnson. Raised in a loving home, he developed the values of respect, compassion, perseverance, and faith that guided him throughout his life.
A proud graduate of Tupelo High School, Class of 1996, Idris continued his education at Itawamba Community College in Fulton, Mississippi, where he earned an Associate Degree in Business. His determination and strong work ethic prepared him for a career devoted to service.
Idris began his professional career at North Mississippi State Hospital, where he faithfully served for several years. He later continued his career with the United States Department of the Navy, where he earned the respect of coworkers through his professionalism, dependability, and dedication.
On August 24, 2012, Idris united in marriage with the love of his life, Lorraine Johnson. Their marriage was built on love, friendship, and unwavering commitment. Together they created a home filled with support, laughter, and cherished memories.
Family was the foundation of Idris’s life and his greatest source of pride. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Lorraine Johnson; his beloved children, Emmanual Frazier, Jacobe Johnson, Allyson Johnson, and Deione Johnson; his loving parents, Alice Johnson and Steve Johnson; his cherished godson, Jamiroguan; Khaza Martin his beloved god-grandson, his loving sisters, Kimberly Johnson, Komekia Johnson, and Tiara Bolden; his treasured niece, Demi Blake Bolden; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, coworkers, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Kelsey Johnson.
Outside of work, Idris embraced life with enthusiasm. He was an avid New England Patriots fan and enjoyed watching football and all sports. Whether gathered with family on game day, sharing stories with friends, or simply enjoying quality time with loved ones, Idris found joy in being surrounded by the people who mattered most. His warm smile, humble spirit, and compassionate heart left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Although his earthly journey has ended, the love Idris shared, the values he lived by, and the countless memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy is one of faith, love, strength, and devotion to family, and it will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be Friday, July 24, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Payton Mortuary. Funeral service will be Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Ecru Second Baptist Church, 350 Central Avenue, Ecru, MS 38841.
