New Albany MS, November 19, 2018 : The Internal Medicine and Pediatric Clinic of New Albany recently presented a check for $1495 to Myrtle Attendance Center to purchase an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The AED will be housed in the school gym and will also be taken to athletic events away from the school.

Dr. Shane Scott, a physician at IM&PC explains, “AED’s are used to treat deadly heart rhythms by providing an electrical shock in an effort to restart a normal heart rhythm. When an athlete or fan experiences one of these events, delivering a shock with the AED is the best chance for survival.” Dr Scott, a graduate of Myrtle Attendance Center, relates that community involvement fulfills the vision of IM&PC and its team. “Our Vision statement is To see the physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual health maximized in our IM&PC team, patients and community.”

Tommy Ozbirn, principal at Myrtle Attendance Center states, “This benefits us by helping make sure our kids are safe. Parents want their children to learn while they are at school, but first and foremost, parents want to know that their kids are safe.” Regarding partnerships with local businesses, he comments “Community/business partnerships are critical. One of the biggest goals of schools is to produce productive citizens and taxpayers for our community. Businesses need schools to graduate students with the skills/knowledge required to be productive at today’s styles of jobs. Being that schools and businesses depend on each other so much, it is imperative that the two entities work together. The common goal is to create as strong a community as possible.”

The Internal Medicine and Pediatric Clinic is located at 118 Fairfield Drive in New Albany. They offer care to infants, children, adolescents, and adults at their office and in the hospital. Their normal business hours are 8-5 Monday – Friday. They offer extended hours 7-8am Monday-Friday and on Saturday’s from 8:30-3pm. They are accepting new patients by calling 662-534-0898.
