Ingomar murder

The man shot multiple times in the Ingomar community Saturday evening, March 17, has died in a Memphis hospital. Murder charges will be filed against the alleged shooter.

Leon Lewis, age 53, died last night at The MED in Memphis, after having been shot seven times at close range with a 9 mm pistol at a residence on County Road 92. The alleged shooter, Larry Walker, age 27, was Lewis’s stepson.

Lewis, his wife and his nine-year-old son had gone to the home of Walker’s girlfriend, Nicole Vanvranken, age 28, to pick up an automobile that belonged to them. Lewis was in the driver’s seat of his car, his wife had just gotten out of the vehicle, and his nine-year-old son was still in the backseat when the shooting occurred.

Lewis was airlifted from the shooting scene to the Regional Medical Center (The MED), but died around midnight.

Walker and Vanvranken have been in the Union County jail since about 9 p.m. Saturday evening. Walker was originally charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, child endangerment and marijuana possession. Vanvranken had been charged as an accessory after the fact and marijuana possession.

Walker is now to be arraigned on murder charges in Union County Justice Court, Monday morning, March 19th. Walker may now face more charges in addition to murder. Vanvranken make also face additional charges.

Union County Sheriff, Jimmy Edwards, said Larry Walker had been convicted in Sunflower County on armed robbery charges some years ago. At the time of the Saturday shooting, Walker was already being sought by the Mississippi Department of Corrections for a parole violation.
