New Internal Medicine & Pediatric Clinic building opens on schedule

Less than ten months from the time the first dirt was moved, patients are being treated in the new Internal Medicine and Pediatric Clinic (IMPC) building in New Albany. An unusual accomplishment by most any measure.

The new 17,500 square foot clinic building opens today, Wednesday, Nov. 1st, at the intersection of Oxford Road and Fairfield Drive.

The complete and newly equipped IMPC building includes:

• 23 exam rooms, each with a TV and USB ports
• 2 procedure rooms
• A radiology suite with state-of-the-art, low-radiation x-ray equipment
• Laboratory equipped for extensive on-site testing and quick results
• A covered patient drop-off area opens into a lobby which gives access to two large, comfortable waiting rooms.
• One waiting room for well patients is partitioned into areas for children and adults. The other waiting room is for sick care and urgent care patients.

There are six physician offices upstairs in the new building, one for each of the four physicians now on staff and two more for physicians who will join the practice as it grows. Additional physicians are being actively recruited now.

An additional feature of the new IMPC building is a specialty clinic for visiting physicians. The clinic for visiting specialists has its own entry, waiting room and examination areas.

Earth moving to prepare the site for the new building started in January of this year. A ground breaking ceremony was held at the site on April 6, when considerable framing work for the new structure had already been completed. The forecast then was that the new IMPC clinic would be ready to receive and treat patients in November.

The parking lot was full of trade vehicles and workers’ autos on the last day before opening the new building to patients.

The Internal Medicine and Pediatric Clinic was founded by Dr. Eric Harding, MD in 2003. The clinic’s mission is to provide a dual specialty clinic in internal medicine and pediatrics, to serve patients living in Union County and North Mississippi. Dr. Shane Scott joined IMPC in 2004, after being mentored by Dr. Harding in medical school. Dr. Scott is a native of Union County. Dr. Harding and Dr. Scott are both board certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.

Fall, and a new home.

Two new physicians have joined the practice within the last 24 months. They are Dr. Lauren Simpson, Pediatrician, and Dr. Matthew Rhinewalt, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Palliative Care.

Terri Pounders and Leanne Lewis, Family Nurse Practitioners, and Katie Minga, physician assistant, also serve patients at IMPC.

A Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting is planned for December 3 at 2pm.
