J. D. Roberts, 100

September 21, 1923  –  July 26, 2024

John David Roberts, known affectionately as J.D. by his friends and family, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2024, at the age of 100 in Blue Springs, MS. Born on September 21, 1923, in Union County, J.D. lived a century filled with dedication, service, and kindness.

J.D. was a man of honor and strength, having served his country in the U.S. Army with valor and distinction. His bravery was recognized with the French Medal of Honor, a testament to his courage and commitment during his military service. After his time in the Army, J.D. returned to his roots in Union County, where he worked diligently as a factory worker and later served the local community through his work for Union County. His dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to his fellow veterans and community members, as evidenced by his active involvement with the American Legion and his status as a respected Mason.

Beyond his professional and service commitments, J.D. was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His love for yard work and gardening was well-known among his friends and neighbors, as he could often be found tending to his plants and flowers with a gentle touch and a warm smile. J.D. also took great pride in handing out poppies for the Legion, a symbol of remembrance and respect for fallen soldiers, which he did with a sense of honor and duty.

Those who knew J.D. would describe him as thoughtful, friendly, and selfless. He was a man who always put others before himself, offering a helping hand or a kind word whenever needed. His presence was a comforting one, and his ability to make everyone around him feel valued and important was one of his most cherished qualities.

J.D. was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Christeen Jones Roberts, with whom he shared many loving years; his parents, Charlie and Thella Mae Caldwell Roberts; and his sister, Charlene Jones. He leaves behind a legacy of love and memories that will be cherished by his three nieces, Catherine Jennings, Shirley Wigington, and Mildred Jones; three great-nephews, Ed Bridges, Joe Bridges, and Doug Wigington; and nine great-great-nieces and nephews, and a very dear friend, Mr Joe Bryant all of whom he adored and who will miss him dearly.
