Jackson, MS: Manhunt underway after toddler, mother and aunt are gunned down in their home

Police in a residential neighborhood Jackson came across a horrifying scene on Saturday after answering a 911 call. Keyana Weathersby, 25her son Camari Givens, 2; and her sister Erica Weathersby, 30, were found deceased inside the home on Queen Alexandria Lane, each with multiple gunshot wounds. The sisters each had multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso. Little Camari was found in his bed.

Keyana and Erica’s brother Demarco Bailey said the sisters were kind and hardworking and said they were raising Camari together.

The police are currently investigating a 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage which was taken from the scene and later found abandoned. Investigators hope something inside the vehicle, which belonged to one of the victims, will lead them to their killer.

This was the deadliest instance of violence in Jackson so far this year. According to the Clarion Ledger, Keyan, Erica and Camari are Jackson’s 41st, 42nd and 43rd homicides in 2026.

Mayor John Horhn acknowledged a recent increase in gun violence in Jackson this year. He said that the Jackson Police Department had an 85% clearance rate in solving homicides, but that more focus was needed on prevention. “Enforcement alone is not enough” Horhn said. “Over the next few days, we will present a plan that brings together law enforcement, community leaders, violence prevention experts, mental health professionals, our faith community, and leaders from communities that are impacted the most by these crimes”.
