James Allen “PeeWee” Hughey, 54
October 1, 1971 – January 1, 2025
On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, Mr. James Allen Hughey, known as PeeWee to his closet friends, departed his earthly home and entered into his heavenly home, where it is without a doubt he has been fully healed and already claimed a Dodge or Mopar to tinker with.
Funeral Services honoring the life of our friend James will be held at 2 PM Sunday January 5, 2025, at Ashland Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 8 PM on Saturday January 4, 2025, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Ashland Church of Christ Cemetery.
Born October 1, 1971, in Tippah County, James is the son of James “Pete” and Linda Bennett Hughey. He received his education from Ashland High School and was a valued employee with TCI Automotive in Ashland for fifteen years, where he gained many friendships and became well aquatinted with the folks of Benton County during his employment.
A Christian, James possessed an easy-going spirit and lived life to the absolute fullest. Favorite pastimes of his included mudding on four wheelers, riding motorcycles, and picking on whoever would stop long enough to allow his mischievous personality to shine through. A very skillful mechanic whose passion was anything with four wheels and a motor, James could fix most almost anything, especially if it was labeled dodge or mopar. Beyond his mechanical intelligence, James’s mind was constantly focused on how things worked, as he once was able to break down two junk computers and convert them into one working system.
Someone who was such a people person, James was naturally gifted with the ability to make friends anywhere he went. Although he never failed to speak his version of the truth, he could always be counted on to state the facts while enduring his family and friends with a reliable source of wisdom. He always filled the room with so much joy and made sure to see the light in any situation. James truly adhered to the belief that we are brought into this world to make it a better place before we leave it, and he was dedicated to doing just that. Just recently he found out about having his son, Keaton. When they first met, they instantly bonded with each other, and he looked forward to spending time together, teaching him all the traits he knew. He was very proud of both of his children and loved to brag on them and tell others how smart and wonderful they were. His countless actions of lending a helping hand to anyone in need, willingness to serve others, and even while in the hospital battling cancer, offered the nurses his own meal and assured they were taken care of was just a few examples of his true servant heart. It’s often said, “Strong people don’t put others down, they lift them up” and for that James Allen “PeeWee” Hughey could easily be described as one of the strongest people there was. All these wonderful traits sum up the type of person he was, and we consider ourselves lucky to have known such a wonderful man, dad, brother, son, and friend.
In addition to his parents, memories will continue to be shared by one daughter, Courtney Thompson (Kyle), one son, Keaton Reese, one sister, Karen Hughey, one grandchild, Cameron Thompson, and another one on the way, Conner Thompson.
