New Albany – James Boyce “Bear” McDonald, 72, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He was born October 2, 1946 in Union County to O.B. “Buck” McDonald and Elizabeth Mayo McDonald. He was a graduate of Ingomar High School and he served in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War. He was a retired furniture factory worker and was a member of Martin Baptist Church.

He enjoyed fishing and gardening, especially tomatoes. He loved his family and his little dog, Annabelle, who usually followed him everywhere.

Funeral services will be at 11:00a.m. Friday, March 29, 2019 at Martin Baptist Church with Bro. Andy Russell and Bro. Mike Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Martintown Cemetery. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

Bear is survived by his wife, Shelia Shelton McDonald; three daughters, Connie Potts and Jessica Dawe, both of New Albany, and Megan Wise (Sam) of Pontotoc; one son James Anthony “Bubba” McDonald (Jessica) of New Albany; three sisters, Betty Haynes, Judy Potts (Wayne) and Brenda Kidd (Jerry), all of New Albany; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Austin Swords, Scott Massengill, Andrew Potts, Sam Wise, Jeff Morris and Jerry Kidd.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 28, 2019 from 5:00p.m. till 8:00p.m. at Martin Baptist Church.

In honor of Mr. McDonald’s service to his country, United Funeral Service will fly the U.S. Marine flag during his visitation and service.
