Born on November 22, 1953, to Flora “Jean” Studdards Page and James “Howard” Page, Sr., James lived a life marked by dedication, hard work, and purpose. From a young age, he carried a strong sense of responsibility, helping care for his family — Robert, Donald, and Lisa — and building the foundation of the man so many would come to admire.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1972 until 1992, dedicating twenty honorable years to protecting the freedoms we all hold dear. His years in service shaped him into a man of strength, integrity, and unwavering discipline. After retiring from the military, James continued his life of service through a career in law enforcement, where his calm leadership, fairness, and courage earned the respect and trust of those who served alongside him. Eventually rising to the position of sheriff, he carried out his duties with the same steady hand and sense of honor that had guided him throughout his life.

Beyond the uniforms and the titles, James was a man of humility, loyalty, and quiet strength. He believed in hard work, integrity, and doing what was right — even when no one was watching. Following his years in public service, he found great joy in the car business, traveling the roads alongside his cousins, Eddie and Ricky, and dear friends Jimmy, Roger, and Wayne — men who were more like brothers than coworkers. With his natural charisma and quick wit, he could sell a car, tell a story, and share a laugh that could light up any room.

James was a protector, a provider, and a teacher — a man who showed others what true strength and faith looked like. He faced life’s challenges with courage and conviction, never giving up and always standing firm in what he believed. Those blessed to know him will remember his laugh, his stories, and the steady presence that could bring calm to any situation. He was the kind of man who never met a stranger. He was tough when he needed to be, but beneath that rugged exterior was a heart full of love and pride for his family.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Christina Carter-Page, and her daughter, Cheryl Ann, who lovingly referred to him as “Daddy James.” He also leaves behind his children: Tracy Cave, Shawna Harrison (Jason), and David Page (Wendy); his grandchildren and one great-grandson; his brother; Robert, his sister; Lisa, and a host of nieces and nephews — all of whom brought him immeasurable joy and pride.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Jean and Howard Page, Sr., his brothers, David and Donald Page, and his son in law, Troy “Scooter” Vandygriff, and Nathan Harrison.

Though his family and friends mourn his passing, they find comfort in knowing that he lived a full and honorable life — one of service, love, and legacy. James believed that one day we would all be measured by our works and by the fruit of the Spirit, and he often said he was destined to serve in the Lord’s Army between good and evil. His mission is complete here on earth, but his service continues in Heaven. Serve Him well, James — your work here is done.

Ripley Funeral Home invites you to share memoires with James’s family.
