September 23, 1953  –  March 3, 2026

Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) James Whitfield “Whit” Kidd, age 72, passed away on March 2, 2026, at Harmony Care in Floresville, Texas, following a brief illness.

Whit was born in New Albany, Mississippi, to the late Herbert and Louise Watson Kidd. At the age of 19, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. Over the course of a distinguished 32-year military career, he served with honor, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the soldiers under his leadership and to the nation he proudly defended. His years of faithful service culminated in his retirement in 2004 with the esteemed rank of Command Sergeant Major, a testament to his leadership, integrity, and devotion to duty.

Following his retirement from the Army, Whit embraced a life centered on family, friendship, and the simple joys he cherished. He enjoyed playing golf with friends, taking pride in maintaining his yard and pool, and watching sports of all kinds. He especially loved keeping in touch with his family and took great pride in caring for his beloved dog, Myah, and his cat, Missy. A lifelong and devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Whit rarely missed an opportunity to watch his favorite team play. Whit was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Louise Kidd, and by his brothers Delaine Kidd, Steve Kidd, Roger Kidd, and Paul Kidd.

He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his daughter, Amna Majors (Mark); his granddaughter, Ashley Majors; his brothers, Jerry Kidd (Brenda), Herbert Kidd, Johnny Kidd (Sandra), Ricky Kidd, and Bobby Kidd; and his sisters, Elsie Williams (Phillip), and Ellen Frazier (Thomas). He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Command Sergeant Major Kidd will be remembered for his steadfast patriotism, strong leadership, deep love for his family, and the lasting impact he made on those who had the privilege of knowing and serving alongside him.
