Janie Francis Roberts Criswell, known affectionately as Janie to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on March 1, 1946, in Union County, MS, Janie was a beacon of joy and love to all who knew. Her final days were spent surrounded by the love and warmth of her family in Nettleton, MS.
The daughter of the late Guy Roberts and Francis Rebecca Gibson Roberts, Janie inherited a vibrant spirit and a nurturing heart. Her life was a testament to the love she carried for her family and the zest with which she approached every day. Janie’s legacy continues through her cherished partner of twelve years, Gary Hallmark, her loving daughters Tammie Blackard Owens (Kevin Crump), Kim Blackard Hood (Glen), Carman Broussard (Tom), and her devoted son, Brad Blackard (Sylvia). Her brother Sherold Roberts also survives her, along with a lineage of joy that includes fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Janie’s life was marked by an adventurous spirit and a passion for the world around her. Her love for her children and grandchildren was unparalleled, and she embraced her role as the matriarch of the family with open arms. A talented cook, she found joy in preparing meals that would bring her family together around the table, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
Her interests extended beyond the kitchen, as Janie was an avid reader who could often be found lost in the pages of a book. She had an infectious love for dancing, a hobby that brought her immense joy and vitality. Nature was another of Janie’s passions, and she cherished long walks down by the pond, where she would occasionally indulge in a little fishing. Her collection of arrowheads and Indian artifacts spoke to her adventurous soul and her appreciation for history and culture.
Janie lived life to the fullest, embracing each day with enthusiasm and a positive outlook. Her loving nature was evident in the way she cared for her family and friends, and her passion for life was contagious. Janie’s adventurous spirit led her to explore and appreciate the beauty in the world, and her passion was reflected in the way she pursued her interests and hobbies.
