Jerry Grubbs, 82

February 27, 1942  –  May 27, 2024

Shannon-Jerry Leon Grubbs lived a purpose filled life of 82 years having served honorably and faithfully his God, his family and his state. Jerry met his Creator and rejoined his late wife, Debra, and other beloved family members from his longtime Shannon residence on Monday morning, May 27, 2024 after two-year-long battle with cancer. Born in Lee County on Feb. 27, 1942 to the late Theron Thompson (T.T.) Grubbs and Cornelia Dye Grubbs, he lived his entire life in Shannon. He graduated from Shannon High School in 1960 where he played football under the legendary Bodine Bourland. As was the tradition of the Grubbs family, Jerry received his barber’s license in 1963 and cut hair for several years. Even until his death, he maintained his barber’s license. He married the love of his life, Debra House Grubbs on March 29, 1968, a marriage of 45 years until her death on Feb. 25, 2013. Jerry spent 37 years serving the citizens of Mississippi as an employee of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety/ Highway Patrol, serving as both dispatcher and Driver’s License Examiner. Jerry’s life centered around his devotion to God and his love for his family. He was a member of the Tupelo Church of God from April 8, 1973 until his death. During his years of membership, he served as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and a Pastor’s Council member. Serving others through his “day job” was important but the most significant and rewarding role was that of being a husband, Daddy, and Papaw. Jerry was also a father, grandfather and influential figure having a great impact upon the lives of countless others. He was a strong yet quiet moving force in his church and family who will be missed sorely by all.

A service celebrating his life will be held at 3 PM Thursday, May 30, 2024 at the Tupelo Church of God with his Pastor Judd Vowell officiating assisted by his son in law, Pastor Tim Bullock and Pastor Justin Myers. Private family burial will follow in the Grubbs family plot at Doty Chapel Cemetery in Shannon. Visitation will be from 5 PM-7PM on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 and from 2 PM-service time on Thursday, all at Tupelo Church of God.
