Jerry Ruel Short, 81

March 2, 1944 – June 25, 2025

Jerry Ruel Short, 81, took his heavenly flight home on June 25, 2025. Jerry was a hard-working, dedicated Christian man who spent many years as a businessman at multiple companies including many faithful years as a salesman and manager with companies such as Keystone, DayBrite and Industrial Products Company as well his own company, Pallet Recyclers. He was a Gideon for many years and loved to serve churches throughout the area distributing Bibles and spreading the Gospel. Most affectionately known as YayYay by those he loved most, his greatest legacy was the love and care he provided for his family. He would tell stories about the many adventures he had with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and those he loved to anyone who would listen. His greatest joy in life came by putting a smile on the faces of those around him, which he did in abundance. To know him was to love him and to love him was easy. He wanted all his kids to know Jesus and to know just how proud of them he was.

Jerry is preceded in death by his father and mother, Wayne and Ruby Short; his brothers Paul, Junior, and Casey; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John D. and Onis Bramlitt; and his great grandson, Wyatt.

He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Shirley Ann Short and his legacy: a daughter, Lori (Jeff) Williams of Thaxton; a son ,John Mark (Crystal) Short of Buchanan; grandchildren: Haley (Josh) Wood, Jay (Katie) Knight, Isabelle (Dawson) Ruth, Chip Short, John Herring, Spencer Herring, Pearl Short, Beth (Brandon) Walker, Marley (Johnathon) Ford, Micheal Williams; and his most cherished great grandchildren: Mavie, Bear, Auden, Ayven, and Alex. He also leaves behind many other family members he loved as his own including two sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and their spouses, children, and grandchildren. His love and care are cherished by a multitude of other “bonus” children and grandchildren he loved as his own as well.

Funeral services will occur on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Buchanan Baptist Church in Pontotoc, MS, a church he served faithfully with his family for many years. Visitation will be from 1pm-3pm and then followed by the funeral at 3pm.  Burial will follow in the Buchanan Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Herring, Spencer Herring, Josh Wood, Brandon Walker, Micheal Williams, Johnathon Ford, Chip Short, Dawson Ruth, Hunter Williamson, and Jeff Shettles. Honorary pallbearers are Jackie Bramlitt and Johnny Bramlitt.
