Jimmy Bucy, 90

December 3, 1935 – April 23, 2026

Birmingham Ridge-James Earl Bucy, Jr, “Jimmy” passed from this earth on April 23, 2026. He was born on December 3,1935 and lived his whole life on Birmingham Ridge. He was the only son of James Earl Bucy Sr and Rosalie Vetrano Bucy. He became the man of the family at the age of eight after his father’s death. He took the job seriously. After graduating from Saltillo High School, he attended Mississippi State and received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and came back to the Ridge to farm. He farmed land in Bucy Bottom and other family land until his nephew Jim joined him and together, they formed Bucy Long Farms.

He lived in the same house for 90 years. He was a great farmer, mechanic, and historian. If anyone had questions about farming, how to fix something on a tractor or needed information about family, Birmingham Ridge, the Delta, they would call Jimmy Bucy. He was a wealth of knowledge.

Jimmy had no children, but he helped raise his nieces and nephew, his great nieces and nephews, and lastly his great great nieces and nephews. He was more than an uncle, he was always around to help, give advice, get them out of the pecan tree and fix anything they broke. He even built a little road so the nieces and nephew could get to his and mamaw’s house without getting on the big road. All were the recipients of a wealth of knowledge that he shared with them as well as lots of love. He shared his knowledge and expertise with his family whether they wanted it or not… and he was usually right.

His legacy will be the love he had for his family, the knowledge he shared with family and friends, and the great farmer he was. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by three nieces, Debbie Morgan, Teresa Gregory (Scott), Mary Jo Brown, one nephew, Jim Bucy Long, all of Saltillo. Nine great nieces and nephews, Emilia Thomason (John), Will Morgan (Carlee), Jared Koon (Savannah), Joseph Koon (Jessi), Jenna Rose Vasquez (Christopher), Charlie Bronc Anderson (Rachael), John Allen Brown (Lauren) John Bucy Long and Stephanie Harrison (Robert). Fifteen great great nieces and nephews, Bella Rose and Mia Claire Morgan, Rosie and Virginia Grace Thomason, Ezra and Miller Koon, Ellis, Emily and Annie James Koon, Jace and Brixton Anderson, Collins and Keely Brown, Cooper and Eli Harrison.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Anita Jo and Jimmy Long, and his nephews-in-law David Morgan and John Kennon Brown.
