Jimmy Dale Baker, 87

Jimmy Dale Baker passed away peacefully at his residence in New Albany on July 23, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on November 18, 1936, in Union County, Mississippi, Jimmy was a man whose life was characterized by his faith, friendliness, and loving nature.



Jimmy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sylvia Manning Baker, his parents, Henry Lee Baker and Josie Blackard Baker, his sons, Ronnie Baker and Phil Baker, and his brothers, Bob Baker and H.A. Baker. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his surviving family, including his son, Marty Baker (Vickie), his brother, J.D. Baker, daughters-in-law Cindy Baker and Shiryl Baker, eight cherished grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren who will fondly remember their grandfather’s wisdom and kindness.

A lifelong resident of New Albany, Jimmy dedicated many years of service to New Albany Light, Gas and Water before his retirement. His commitment to his community was evident in his involvement and leadership. Jimmy was a faithful member of Harmony Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 58 years, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his faith and church family. His service as a Gideon further reflected his dedication to spreading the word of God and helping others.

Jimmy’s interests and hobbies were a testament to his appreciation for the simpler pleasures in life. He was an avid Case Knife collector, a hobby that showcased his eye for detail and his appreciation for craftsmanship. His coin collection was another source of pride and joy, revealing his love for history and the stories each piece could tell. Jimmy also found solace and excitement in the great outdoors, whether he was casting a line while fishing or quietly waiting for the perfect shot during hunting season.

Those who knew Jimmy would describe him as a man of great faith, a friendly face in the community, and a loving family man. His gentle spirit and generous heart touched the lives of many, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at United Funeral Service from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Harmony Baptist Church from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. Bro. Daniel Smith and Bro. Bobby Butler will officiate. Burial will be at Glenfield Memorial Park.
